Question:
I would love a guided imagery to improve my piano playing. It isn't exactly anxiety that holds me back - it seems to be a lack of openness or fluidity with the music. I haven't been able to find this anywhere, and I hope you'll consider doing one. I love all the others of yours that I've used.
Tom
Dear Tom,
Thanks. It sounds like you want to achieve a “flow” state where you are no longer self-conscious about your playing but can just effortlessly become the playing, so to speak. This is the ideal mind state for creativity, sports and any kind of peak performance – where you become so involved in what you’re doing, and your attention is so focused, that you stop observing yourself. And when that happens, all stiffness disappears and you become one with what you’re doing.
W e use imagery to evoke that mind-state in the Self-Confidence & Peak Performance audio, so you might want to try that title. Additionally, Emmett Miller has imagery to set you up for the flow state in his Optimal Performance recording. And David Illig gets you there as well, with his Ericksonian Hypnosis audio, Peak Performance Sports, along with Martha Howard’s Keys to Your Highest Potential. Any one of these will help you loosen up – it’s just a matter of your personal preference for voice and style.
Good luck and all best,
Belleruth
