A boy who cannot sleep after having witnessed some terrible violence at his middle school, finds that guided imagery, Reiki, yoga and music are able to restore his zzzzzz’s..
Dear BR and Health Journeys,
My son witnessed some terrible violence at his middle school and was having trouble with nightmares. As a result he was too frightened to sleep. This led to other problems, because he was sleep-deprived all the time. His school work was suffering (he was always a very good student) and he lost interest in socializing with his friends (some of whom were also quite disturbed from this event). We were quite worried about him.
His teacher suggested he work with a relaxation specialist, a local social worker who worked with some of the other kids. From him he learned some brief guided imagery exercises, and also how to do calming yoga stretches at bedtime. He also taught him Reiki exercises. He also encouraged him choose the same music to play at bed time while doing these things, so that when he heard the music, he would immediately start relaxing, by association.
Our son is sleeping again and we believe he is on the road to recovery, thank heavens. My husband and I believe that these methods gave him back his sense of confidence in himself and a feeling of empowerment, because he was able to take control of his situation again.
So keep getting the word out about these techniques. They are very important!!!!!
Thank you.
