Hi Belleruth, I was given a CD to help people through surgery using guided imagery. When I first listened to it, 3 days before my hysterectomy, I became afraid, visualizing the OR. Shortly, after that part of the CD, the visualization of your own personal team of well wishers was very powerful. I thought of my dear uncle, now deceased, being part of that group and as the one who nodded and smiled at me before I went under.
I listened to the CD morning and night before my surgery and also
brought it with me to listen to post surgery. My surgery lasted 3 extra
hours due to the position of my fibroids.
I was wheeled out and immediately started to feel good. I ate that
evening, took a walk around the ward with my nurse, and the next
morning, got up myself and walked around without help. I was so
energetic and elated that I was not hurting too much. I was discharged
from the hospital at noon, the day after surgery. I began walking up
and down our street that day, and my recovery was fast and easy. Guided
imagery helped my surgery and recovery be smooth and (almost) painless!
