Facebook!

My husband has had M.S. for over 20 years. He is confined to a wheel chair most of the time, and he suffers from debilitating fatigue.  At the suggestion of a support group friend, he started using yoga videos.  I personally thought this would be a waste of time, but he found Carol Dickman’s yoga especially helpful – both the Seated Yoga and the Bed Top Yoga.
I’m delighted to have been wrong.  This practice has done him a world of good.  He has more energy and strength, and his mood is decidedly better.  It’s great to see his spirits so lifted.

I’m asking you to post this, to let others know about the benefits of yoga, as it is not something one would necessarily think of for someone with debilitating fatigue in a wheelchair.

How wonderful! It must be really gratifying that he can do something to help himself! I would like to share that reflexology and acupuncture are also very beneficial for MS. You can learn to do some reflexology on yourself, through classes or books.

How wonderful you've made me feel knowing my programs have helped your husband. When talking to groups I often say that whatever you want to change in your life, yoga will help you do it. Thank you for sharing your story.

Yoga is a wonderful mind-body activity for person's with physical limitations and disabilities. It is not just for those that are extremely flexible or strong. As a Physical Therapist, I often recommend specific yoga activities to person's with illness, pain or disability. There is also a lot more to yoga than the physical aspect... it is a way of life, offering spiritual, mental, emotional and physical tools. Here in the Minneapolis area where I live there is a well known Iyengar yoga instructor who is paraplegic and is bringing yoga to persons with disability. You can learn more about his work at National Public Radio's program Speaking of Faith with Krista Tippett here: http://speakingoffaith.publicr...odysgrace/
Moving the body moves the mind (and moving your mind changes the body too, a two way street!) Yoga is a great way to get going...
