We are proud to introduce you to Brad Larsen, a nurse anesthetist whose enthusiasm, knowledge, focus, drive and commitment to compassionate patient care resulted in his creating the Kaiser Santa Rosa Preparing for Successful Surgery Program in 2003, along with Dr. Manny Diaz. Every Kaiser member having surgery is offered a custom Health Journeys CD, containing guided imagery, affirmations, and Steve Kohn’s relaxing music. Many members have already reported greatly reduced anxiety and discomfort when using the program, and now Kaiser has extended the guided imagery program to include all hospitalized members, who are now also offered guided imagery CDs such as Relaxation and Wellness, Ease Pain, and Healthful Sleep to use throughout their hospital stay.

In addition, the program has been so successful and enthusiastically received, that Kaiser has secured funding to introduce it to the entire KP northern California region. You’ll be seeing a write up of these efforts shortly.

Brad’s comprehensive understanding of mind-body-spirit evolves from his study of religion at Carleton College, living in a yoga community in the California foothills, and teaching yoga for several years at Ananda Village before going to nursing school and studying anesthesia. He’s been with Kaiser now for over ten years.

When not revolutionizing medicine, Brad and his wife, Katherine, are tending to their two complex and demanding cats, Justa and Justine.
