A counselor at a large community college wants to know what kind of guided imagery might help his students with test anxiety, concentration problems and attention deficit disorder… I am a counselor and student advisor at a large community college. What imagery do you recommend for helping my students with test anxiety, concentration problems and attention deficit disorder? I want to be able to give them some empowerment tools. They are filled with worry and distress. Any thoughts?
Julian

Dear Julian,
I’m delighted that you want to introduce guided imagery to your students. It’s a perfect tool for them, and you can really help them with their focus, concentration and test anxiety, by offering them some guided imagery CDs - simple, easy, user-friendly self-regulation tools.

Martha Howard’s Greater Memory and Learning Skills and Emmett Miller’s Optimal Performance, are two excellent new CDs we’ve added to our catalog and exactly the kind of thing you’re looking for. In addition, my Self-Confidence & Peak Performance imagery is also designed to help with this.

Encourage them to listen regularly, when waking up or falling asleep…. The benefits will increase incrementally. But probably they’ll be most likely to use them when a test is looming on the horizon!

Good luck and best wishes with this. Stay in touch and let me know how it goes.

Along with the wonderful CDs suggested above, the company HeartMath has scientifcally validated, wonderful, easy to use products that support children and adults with test taking anxiety, stress, emotional self mastery etc. that allow higher cortical functioning while enhancing general health and well being. If appropriate, feel free to contact me off- blog. I applaud the counselor for recognizing the need for a holistic approach with his students. Best of luck, KA

I am a middle school math teacher and several of my students stress out when it comes time to take any type of math test. I am wondering if there is anything I could do with my classes as a whole to help alleviate anxiety. I do have them close their eyes and take a few big deep breaths. I also have them take themselves (in their mind) to their favorite place where they can be relaxed. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you! JD
