Hello again.

I now know dozens of people – as I’m sure you do - who’ve been hammered by this frayed economy.  Last week I had breakfast in New York with an old friend, a successful editor and publisher, who was heartbroken because she’d just had to lay off several prized members of her staff – people who’d worked for her for years and whom she considered good friends as well as valued colleagues.  As I watched her over our cooling eggs, I thought, “I bet she feels even worse than the people she had to pink-slip.”  Aside from feeling horrible for them, she also knew she’d be holding her demoralized shop together with a lick and a promise, and the constant anxiety that she and everything she’d built over the years could be next.

Most people are sweating their shrinking 401K’s and retirement funds, but this may be the least of it (although that’s worrisome enough).  We’re all surrounded by people – or we are people - who’ve been laid off, whose businesses have failed, who have lost their homes, whose retirement has evaporated and whose families have disintegrated from all the stress.

And although I’m quite optimistic about our ultimate future, and certain that we’ll come out of these troubles stronger and better (especially with the injection of the new, capable leadership we’re about to get), still, it’s going to be a while before this turns around, and we’re looking at a lot of distress between now and then.

Dr. Lynn Joseph, PhDSo, sadly, I think it’s time to remind people of Dr. Lynn Joseph’s superb Job Loss Recovery Program – both her extraordinary CDs and her guide book.  This is a terrific, 6-part, imagery-based program, designed in a very knowledgeable, sophisticated way to help people get past the distress of being laid off and onward toward boosting their confidence, focus, interview performance, determination and positivity (if there is such a word, which I kind of doubt) to help in very concrete, practical ways with getting hired for the next job.

Lynn really does her homework, covers all the bases and has a uniquely empathic understanding of the issues – not to mention a lovely voice for leading her guided meditations.  This is high quality stuff!  If you know somebody who’s lost his or her job and feeling pretty bad, this is a really helpful and timely gift that could stem the hemorrhaging of self esteem and lead to positive results.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for better days for all of us, and hoping they come soon!  In the meantime, take care, be well, and don’t forget to keep breathing those deep, full breaths!!

All best,

Thank you for sharing this with us! These are scary times, when very few of us are sure that we're still going to have a job tomorrow. This will help ease some of the discomfort and stress of being unemployed.
